Creative Event Program Development case study
Cumberland CID Paces Mill Palisades Groundbreaking Fan program
Challenge
The Cumberland Community Improvement District (CCID) was celebrating the groundbreaking of the New Day Palisades project, a $15.8 million initiative aimed at revitalizing the Paces Mill area within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA), with a groundbreaking ceremony. This project aimed to upgrade the area's recreational activities, including a new parking lot, landscaping and expanded river access for a safer and more enjoyable experience for visitors and wildlife.
CCID wanted a printed program to highlight the beautiful landscaping and the contributions of supporters for the project, including Congresswoman Lucy McBath, Cumberland CID board chair and Seven Oaks Company principal and founder Bob Voyles, Pinnacle Financial Partners president Rob Garcia and National Park Service regional director Mark Foust.

c21 Solution
The program information included details on the event's run-of-show, key speakers and showcased illustrations of the park’s renovations plan. c21 considered the intense summer heat that would likely affect event attendees, and suggested the groundbreaking program be created as a hand-held fan.

c21 designed the program to fit into a custom kayak paddle shape, which symbolized the region’s kayaking culture while connecting the design to the Chattahoochee River. c21 then worked closely with CCID and vendors to ensure timely production and delivery of the double-sided printed program in the shape of a kayak paddle to celebrate the groundbreaking of the New Day Palisades project.
Results
The fan was designed with functionality and creativity in mind, aligning with CCID’s goal of creating an impactful and memorable experience for the ceremony’s visitors by giving them proper information while cooling them off at the same time.
The groundbreaking ceremony was a major success with attendance exceeding the initial expectations and positive attendee feedback. The program’s fresh and innovative design effectively highlighted the speakers and showcased the park’s renovation vision through detailed site renderings.
The paddle-shaped fans provided great relief from the August heat, warded off insects and kept guests comfortable while serving as a clever way to deliver information about the event and doubling as an event keepsake. c21’s creative design contributed to a smooth and comfortable guest experience and helped to build buzz around the New Day Palisades project.
