Client Spotlight: Jan Lorenc

Jan Lorenc and Chung YooJan Lorenc is more than a c21 client, he was the company’s first landlord.  Leasing a small office from Lorenc+Yoo Design in 1992, c21 saw firsthand how the Lorenc inspired his team and his clients with innovative environmental design solutions.  More than a decade later, Lorenc+Yoo is celebrating its 30th anniversary under Lorenc’s leadership and is continuing to develop cutting-edge designs for some of the world’s leading brands like Sony-Ericsson, Georgia Pacific, Samsung, Mayo Clinic and more.

Born in Jaśliska, Poland, Lorenc immigrated to the United States when he was eight years old.  Shortly after completing his Master’s degree in visual communication from the Illinois Institute of Technology, he started Lorenc Design.  In 1998, he renamed the firm Lorenc+Yoo Design with partner Chung Youl Yoo.  Lorenc+Yoo’s impressive 30 year history includes industrial, exhibit, architectural, interior and furniture design, as well as environmental graphics, for projects located in the United States, Dubai and China, among others.

Jan Lorenc’s unique approach to design focuses on each client’s “story.”  Not only are no two designs ever the same, most bear virtually no resemblance to one another – embodying Lorenc’s philosophy that each design should tell an individual story – the client’s work, its mission and its message.  That philosophy is also the inspiration behind Experiential Storytelling – a quarterly e-newsletter that c21 created for Lorenc+Yoo Design.  What is Exhibition Design?Consistently doubling and even tripling industry standards for e-mail marketing campaigns, the newsletter tells readers the stories behind Lorenc+Yoo Designs, and has led to multiple sales leads for the firm.

Lorenc tells the story of the evolution of environmental design in his new book, What is Exhibition Design?, which has already sold out its first printing and is being translated into Polish, Russian and Chinese.  To learn more about Lorenc+Yoo, visit the company’s Web site or click here to sign up for Experiential Storytelling.
