Client Spotlight – John Kemp and the
Ugliest Patio Contest
Oldcastle Architectural understands curb appeal. As the leading North American producer of concrete masonry products, Oldcastle Architectural has seen firsthand how their products can increase a home's value. Through its nationwide network of manufacturers and distributors, the company has provided pavers, patio blocks, ornamental concrete and bricks to builders, contractors and homeowners working to beautify their home's exterior for more than 15 years.
John Kemp, vice president of marketing, is constantly searching for new ways to market Oldcastle’s products to new and existing customers. His never-ending quest led c21 to an inspired idea: What if Oldcastle could rid America of its ugly patios? Would property values increase? Would neighbor relations improve?
With John's approval, c21 developed this idea and invented the Ugliest Patio Contest. Through the contest, John and Oldcastle Architectural are searching for the ugliest patio in America so they can give the patio's owner a much-needed makeover that the whole neighborhood will appreciate.
Launched last month at the 2007 International Builders Show, the contest invites anyone who thinks they qualify for the ugliest patio in America to complete an entry form and submit a photo at www.uglypatio.com. A panel of expert judges, including a landscape architect, a landscape engineer and a representative of Oldcastle Architectural, will select two winners: one patio up to 500 square feet and one patio between 501 and 1,000 square feet. The winners will receive professional installation of Oldcastle's Retail or Belgard lines of pavers, stones, edgers and walls, and Oldcastle will have before and after photographs to drive new customers to its robust product line.
If you think your patio – or your neighbor's patio – might qualify, enter at www.uglypatio.com. |
